South Korean shares hit more than 4-year high on renewed policy hopes

• KOSPI rises, foreigners net buyers
• Korean won weakens against dollar
• South Korea benchmark bond yield falls

(Reuters) - Round-up of South Korean financial markets:
** South Korean shares rose to more than four-year high on Tuesday, buoyed by Wall Street's overnight gains and renewed hopes of a domestic policy boost.
** The benchmark KOSPI gained 40.46 points, or 1.26%, to 3,260.05, the highest close since August 9, 2021.
** The index rose for the sixth consecutive session and marked its biggest daily percentage rise since August 25.
** Overnight, the Nasdaq notched a record close on a Broadcom-led rally, and the S&P 500 also gained on growing expectations of a Federal Reserve rate cut aimed to support economic growth.
** "There also were hopes that policy momentum would revive after media reports of the president's comments that the government was positively considering changes to capital gains tax rules on stock investment," said Lee Sung-hoon, an analyst at Kiwoom Securities.
** Securities firms jumped 7.06% and financial groups added 2.46% on hopes of policy measures to boost the domestic stock market.
** Among index heavyweights, chipmaker Samsung Electronics rose 2%, while peer SK Hynix gained 3.97%. Battery maker LG Energy Solution climbed 1.02%.
** Hyundai Motor and sister automaker Kia were up 0.23% and 0.57%, respectively. Steelmaker POSCO Holdings added 1.61%, while drugmaker Samsung BioLogics rose 0.97%.
** Of the total 932 traded issues, 590 advanced and 289 declined.
** Foreigners were net buyers of shares worth 656.8 billion won ($473.3 million).
** The won was quoted at 1,387.9 per dollar on the onshore settlement platform, 0.06% lower than Monday's close of 1,387.0.
** The most liquid three-year Korean treasury bond yield fell 3.1 basis points to 2.423%, while the benchmark 10-year yield lost 3.3 basis points to 2.818%. ($1 = 1,387.8200 won)
