Senegal’s annual inflation rate increased to 2.2% in August 2025, up from 1.8% the previous month, marking the highest level since April 2024. The increase was mainly driven by a faster rise in prices for food products and non-alcoholic beverages (3.8% vs 2.8% in July), which saw the fastest increase in 17 months. Prices also accelerated for housing and utilities (1.3% vs 1.1%), transport (1.7% vs 1.4%), and health (1.8% vs 1.7%), while it rebounded in clothing and footwear (0.7% vs -0.1%). Excluding energy and fresh products, the core index climbed 4.5% year-on-year, after a 4.0% rise in July. On a monthly basis, consumer prices advanced 1.0% in August, following a 1.1% gain in July, which was the highest since January.
