The EU-standard harmonized index of consumer prices (HICP) in Ireland rose by 2.7% year-on-year in September 2025, the fastest pace since January 2024, accelerating from 1.9% in the previous month, according to preliminary estimates. The increase was largely driven by a 4.7% annual rise in food prices and a 1.0% gain in energy costs. Meanwhile, core HICP—which excludes volatile components such as energy and unprocessed food— also accelerated to 2.7% from 1.9% in August. On a monthly basis, harmonized consumer prices edged down 0.2% in September, the first decline in eight months, reversing a 0.4% increase in August.
