ASX resets record closing high after the open, led by industrials and miners

The Australian sharemarket reset a record closing high on Monday, minutes after the open, led by industrials and miners on the back of firm commodity prices.
The S&P/ASX 200 Index rose 0.2 per cent, or 20 points, to 9,007.4 at 10.35am AEDT , having regained the 9,000 mark for the first time in six weeks. Moments before it hit a record closing high of 9019.1 set on August 21.
Out of the 11 sectors, six were flashing green with industrials recording the biggest gain as plumbing supplier Reece rose nearly 2 per cent. James Hardie jumped 2.2 per cent.
Tech stocks receded, tracking losses on the Nasdaq on Friday.
Brisbane Broncos soared 19 per cent after their big win at the NRL grand final.
Miners also advanced, buoyed by Iluka, up 3 per cent and Lynas 2.7 per cent higher. The big mining groups, however, were subdued with both Rio Tinto and BHP down 0.2 per cent.
Financials gained with the big banks in the green. Westpac and Commonwealth Bank added 0.8 per cent, while ANZ and National Australia Bank rose 0.5 per cent each.
Stocks on the move
In corporate news, dual-listed Restaurant Brands rose 1.4 per cent after it received notice from majority stakeholder Finaccess Restauracion for a full takeover offer at $NZ5.05 ($4.46) per share.
Auckland Airport edged up 0.1 per cent on news the Commerce Commission to rule out the need for an inquiry into airport regulation following Air New Zealand's request.
Gold miner Predictive Discovery (PDI) dropped 1.1 per cent after it announced a merger of equal with Canada's Robex Resources in a $2.3 billion deal. Under the plan, Robex shareholders will receive 8.667 PDI shares per Robex security.
